The Lakeside Blues Festival (Puistoblues) has been voted the Finnish Blues Festival of the Year 2008. In a poll arranged by Blues-Finland.com, Lakeside marched to a landslide victory with 32,5 per cent of the vote. Just about 500 blues fans took part in the survey.

"A win like this surely brings the smile to my face", says festival chief
Jouni Hyytiäinen. "We received a lot of feedback from last summer's event – the survey results now confirm the success of Lakeside 2008." Mr Hyytiäinen thanks all the voters, because after all they are the ones responsible for the notoriously good atmosphere at the Lakeside.

The Lakeside Blues Festival is arranged in the city of Järvenpää, located some 50 kilometres from Helsinki. Last year the festival celebrated its 30th Anniversary. The event is organised by a local blues/jazz association, and the staff consists of volunteers only.

Mr Hyytiäinen says negotiations with possible artists at next summer's festival are on the way. The artist list will be first published on Puistoblues.fi, the official site, which also includes an
English section. Last summer's stars were Delbert McClinton, Duke Robillard, Big Jack Johnson, Julian Sas and Finland's Erja Lyytinen.

The second most popular in the survey was Rauma Blues (Buckwheat Zydeco, The Mannish Boys) with Down Home Island Tampere (Eric Bibb, Little Victor) finishing third. There were about 40 blues festivals in all shapes and sizes around Finland in 2008.
