Brilliant songwriter, world-class harmonica player and streetwise vocalist Rick Estrin was the very popular front man with the internationally renowned Little Charlie & The Nightcats for over 30 years. They played thousands of club, theatre and festival gigs across the U.S. and around the world.  Plus, Rick wrote the vast majority of the songs (including the Blues Music Award-winner “My Next Ex-Wife”) on their nine critically acclaimed albums.

Little Charlie & The Nightcats have over 115,000 career scans, with their first three releases pre-dating SoundScan.

Recently, when guitarist Little Charlie Baty retired from touring, Estrin recruited six-string whiz Kid Andersen. With this hot new combination, Rick has kept on creating and playing the smartest, hippest blues and roots music around, and taking it on the road to happy audiences everywhere. Rick averaged 150-200 gigs a year with Little Charlie & The Nightcats, a work ethic he’ll continue with the new band.

As a member of Little Charlie & The Nightcats, Estrin had his praises sung by Down Beat, Billboard, The Associated Press, Guitar Player, Guitar One, Living Blues, Blues Revue, Blues In Britain, Blues Matters (UK), Il Blues (Italy), Bluesnews (Germany) and countless publications worldwide.

Estrin and His Nightcats Get Twisted

10 April 2009

"Twisted", the new album by Rick Estrin & The Nightcats will be out on Alligator Records on 2 June. "Twisted" highlights Rick Estrin’s offbeat, yet razor-sharp lyrical visions backed by a more rock-infused guitar punch than before.

Hard-charging Chicago blues, frisky West Coast jump and jaunty retro-rock make way for a haunting slow blues or two, only to rev back into rollicking action.

Front and center throughout are Estrin’s wry, cutting vocals and amazing harmonica chops.  Andersen’s killer fretwork stands out as well and a rock solid rhythm section keeps things tight and right.
