| PapaLeg and the Fruits of the Mississippi Pilgrimage 18 May 2009 PapaLeg Acoustic Duo, an interesting tandem from Italy, recently released a new cd, "Back to Mississippi". Fuelled by the positive outcome of the album together with gigs around Europe, PapaLeg will headline the Kaavi Blues festival in eastern Finland in early June. Pierluigi Petricca, the senior member of the duo, sat down with BluesWebzine.com. Pierluigi, please tell our readers about your trip to Mississippi. We went to Mississippi three years ago, it was our first time there. It was a fantastic experience, because we met a lot of blues musicians there -- we had the opportunity to play with Bill Abel, Monroe Jones, Cadillac John, and David Lee Durham, who has since passed. We also got to play at the Ebony Club juke joint in Indianola. In addition, we visited Nashville and performed at the Radio Cafe there. Are you satisfied with your latest album? How did the Mississippi trip affect the album? Our album "Back to Mississippi" is the summary of our trip to the U.S.A. We included some of the blues we listened to in Mississippi, songs like "I Go Back to Mississippi", "Cool Drinking Water Blues", "Long Distance Call", "Pony Blues", and "Me and My Baby". Those songs have the sound of the Mississippi soil; in the American South the blues is different -- people play so spontaneously. You've been to Finland before. How did you like the experience and the people? We love the Finnish people, especially the Finnish babes! Last year we enjoyed a very entertaining weekend playing at the Savonsolmu Winter Blues Party and the DNA Jazz Club in Kuopio. Finns have a great respect for music and musicians. It is a pleasure to play for such a caring audience. What can the audience expect from your set at the Kaavi Blues Festival? Anything else you would like to say to the readers of BluesWebzine.com?
